 Penile reconstructive surgery can actually mean a lot of different things.
Penile reconstructive surgery covers a wide range of conditions, and the surgery involved can range from fairly straightforward and minimal to very complex procedures.
Here are some of the main forms of penile reconstructive surgery:
Penile Frenuloplasty Surgery
This is performed when a man is experiencing significant discomfort, and possibly pain and bleeding, during intercourse due to the foreskin and frenulum (the part of the skin that attaches the foreskin to the rest of the penis) being too tight and restrictive. Similarly, circumcision surgery is sometimes carried out in adults too. Find out more here
Skin grafting
Penile skin graft surgery might need to be carried out for a number of reasons. This might be due to problems with scarring or skin loss following previous procedures, such as an earlier circumcision or treatment for cancer. Or it could be necessary following a trauma to the area, for instance.
Peyronie’s disease
Peyronie’s disease causes a bend or curve in the penis when erect, along with pain and scarring (sometimes men with Peyronie’s develop a thickened area of lump on the penis shaft). Penile prosthesis and implants
Penile reconstruction surgery can also involve implants or prosthetics, and there’s a number of reasons why these might be needed. Sometimes prosthetics are required as part of major reconstructive surgery, for instance, or implants might be required to help with erectile dysfunction or impotence.
